Where do I start?
There isn’t really a clear place to start. The process can be confusing and stressful at times. The first thing to do is to find a professional real estate agent to help guide you through the process. Keyword, professional. Not all agents are created equal, so it’s important to carefuly select one that is experienced, knowledgeable, and trustworthy. Working with a qualified agent will save you a ton of time, money, and hassle – making the entire process enjoyable and stress-free.
How do I select a good agent?
We recommend interviewing at least three agents prior to starting the home buying process. When interviewing agents, there are FIVE CRITICAL QUESTIONS to ask that will ensure you’re getting the best representation possible. Not asking these questions could cost you time, money, frustration, and even your dream home!
1) What is your availability like?
Houses move quickly nowadays and if you can’t get in fast, it could be gone if your agent has limited availability. Being able to get into a new listing the second it hits the market could be the difference between getting your home or losing it to someone else.
2) If you’re not available to show a property to me, do you have an agent who can?
Great agents are busy and usually working with multiple clients. If they’re already booked and your dream house becomes available, there should be a back up agent that can get you in right away. If not, you could potentially lose out on the opportunity.
3) What is your success rate and strategy for getting offers submitted in multiple offer situations?
Multiple offers are extremely common in today’s market. A great agent will know how to structure a solid offer that will put you at the front of the line for consideration. The highest offer is not necessarily the best one!
4) Will you preview houses for me?
Your time is precious, and it shouldn’t be squandering looking at homes that don’t suit your tastes and needs. Once an agent has a good idea what you’re looking for in a new home, you should be presented with listings that meet your criteria.
